Introducing Eric Borden’s
The polar ice caps melted and the oceans rose.
Nations were swept away in the deluge.
World governments were fractured by war. Corporations filled the void.
Millions died. Resources dwindled and flight became a thing of the past.
Mankind was nearly destroyed. But life clawed its way back through science and blood…
Follow Hans and the crew of the Runaway Horse as they make their way in the New Pacific, a world of ruthless business, uneasy truces, and shifting alliances. A world bound by steel, marked by mutation, and at the mercy of the violent sea.
Scrimshaw is an upcoming comic series drawn by Dave Mims and written by Eric Borden. It tells the story of a possible future. One in which the world has been affected by the effects of global warming, genetic and agricultural manipulation, and all-out war between the so-called superpowers.
Scrimshaw imagines a future that could become very real given the current state of affairs in the world.
The story is a genre-mixing tale of old and new. It is a science and swordplay adventure on the high seas. It’s the story of a loose confederation of characters from the far-flung corners of the world who have come together as a family in order to find their way. With members hailing from Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, and American Samoa, the crew of the Runaway Horse has a colorful past and an uncertain future.
While it’s a fantasy adventure with a diverse cast of characters, it is also firmly rooted in the real. Issues like global warming, over-fishing of the oceans, corporate exploitation, political over-reach, and race relations are tackled head-on. The story also revolves around one of the oldest and most maligned traits that mankind possesses, our ability to make war. Scrimshaw imagines a future that could become very real given the current state of affairs in the world.
