Oh The Wonders of Wondercon
WonderCon Anaheim | Eric Borden
This weekend I’ll be heading back to California, this time Anaheim proper for Wondercon 2019. This will be my first time attending Wondercon which is held by most people I’ve run into as one of the best conventions anywhere for creators and fans. I’ll be attending with my con-mate, David Lucarelli who has graciously allowed me to crash his table. Dave’s the hyper-talented author of Tinseltown from Alterna comics and an all-around good dude to hang with at a convention. He knows everybody and has certainly proven to be an ambassador for indie comics.
Scrimshaw: Tears of the Sonoran Sea
I’ve gotten a full-restock of the 2nd installment of Scrimshaw: Tears of the Sonoran Sea and I’ll have plenty of that fresh Alterna comics newsprint on-hand so be sure and stop by. You can check the normal social media channels for mid-con updates. In addition to the normal con goings-on I’ll be participating in a panel on Saturday afternoon at 3:30. You can check out the particulars below:
Alterna Comics: Finding the Audience for Your Comic
You’ve done what should be the hard part. You’ve made your comic. Now, how do you find its audience while competing with Marvel and DC? Pat Jankiewicz interviews creators David Lucarelli (Tinseltown and The Children’s Vampire Hunting Brigade), Eric Borden (Scrimshaw), and Terry Mayo (The Wicked Righteous) about the unique marketing strategies that have helped make their comics a success. Free comics for everyone who asks a question.
I’ve sat panels with David and Terry before at Long Beach and out in Indio at Fantasia and you can trust and believe it will prove to be both informative and entertaining.
Any Local Food Recommendations?
Now you know I always like to check out a local spot for a post-con beer and grub session. Finding a local haunt has proven to be one of the highlights of traveling to a con. But since it’s the maiden voyage at Wondercon I’ll be left to discover a place. So please accept my apologies for not being able to present one in advance. I plan on leaning heavily on the locals to find a spot so you can trust it will be good. Got a recommendation? Hit me up on Twitter!
Here’s to a good weekend and I’ll see you in the aisles!
